Outdoor Activities Abound in the Florida Fall

Fall is approaching, which many Floridians consider the most pleasant time of year. The change in weather that starts around November in central Florida allows for many other outdoor pastimes (aside from our award-winning beaches and water activities!) without the heat being a concern. Below are five of the favorites of Manatee and Sarasota County locals.

Myakka River State Park - Enjoy kayaking, hiking, a boat tour, biking, bird watching, camping and more at Myakka State Park in East Sarasota. This Old Florida gem, which is several miles east of Interstate 75 off Clark Road, is home to thousands of alligators which can be viewed at many points of interest along the main road in the park. Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival - Every October, this is a must-do for area natives and families from all over central Florida. Running through the corn maze, shopping from local vendors of all types, enjoying the petting zoo, and hay rides are some of the fun activities that are offered at this annual event. View Website

Ringling Bridge - The Ringling Bridge that connects Lido Key with Downtown Sarasota is just over half a mile one way and makes for a lovely evening walk with spectacular sunsets over Longboat and Lido Keys. Each side of the bridge has a wide sidewalk with plenty of room for strollers, walkers, and bikers. You won’t be disappointed in the view. View Website

Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market - The Farmers Market is a weekly event that runs all year on Saturday Mornings from 7am - 1pm on Lemon Ave. and State St., but it is very pleasant in the fall when the weather makes lingering and browsing very pleasant. Parking is easy at the garage across from Whole Foods and the variety of local farmers and vendors of homemade goods is impressive. View Website

Robinson Preserve - This park in Northwest Bradenton feels off the beaten path, but is not too far away from the City of Bradenton off 75th Street NW. Robinson Preserve has excellent walking and running trails, and as such, hosts many races such as 5k’s and 10k’s. It is a great place to walk dogs and ride bikes with kids, and its natural beauty never fails to disappoint. View Website
